"Today, like every other day, we wake up empty and frightened.
Don't open the door to the study and begin reading.
Take down a musical instrument."

what music would you like today?

MIDIval Times
MIDIval Punditz
The beat of modern trance music meets tablas, which I realize can describe a lot of music these days, but this stuff is constantly catching, complex and very energizing. Great for more upbeat parties and almost guaranteed to be set on 'repeat'. Henna clients into the dance scene really enjoy this CD and the next one since it's got the groovy beat they want along with feel of exoticness people like with henna.

Asian Massive: A Six Degrees Collection
Various Artists
Largely featuring songs from MIDIval Punditz and DJ Cheb I Sabbah, this is another upbeat, energizing collection of complex ethnic-fusion. The music is always changing and captivates the ear. I play this one with the MIDIval PunditZ and other fusion groups to create hours of relaxing yet energizing atmosphere.

Passion
Peter Gabriel
This CD contains variants on songs contained in the soundtrack to The Last Temptation of Christ. This was Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's first major collaboration with a Western artist, giving him the worldwide exposure he so enjoyed the last years of his life. Even after nearly 20 years this is still a soothing and 'passionate' favorite that will dispel a bad mood, establish a good one, or merely set the tone so I can enjoy the space around me and really fall into my art. Definitely my choice for "If I were stuck on a desert island with a CD player and batteries..."

Live in San Francisco at Stern Grove
Tabla Beat Science & Guest Artists:
More than just TBS, this is a live collaboration with MIDIval PunditZ, Zakir Hussain, Bill Laswell, Karsh Kale, Ustad Sultan Khan and other electronic and Asian artists. This is a live performance and the unrehearsed portions of the show are nothing short of astounding. Certain to have you and your guests tapping their feet. This is also available as a trippy DVD which would make really interesting background visuals at a larger party.

People's Colony No. 1
Temple of Sound & Rizwan-Muazz
Led by two nephews of the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, this combines the soaring vocals of qawwali and a Cuban violinist with dance beats. If you miss Nusrat's voice, his nephew is a dead ringer. Also featuring Transglobal Underground and Jah Wobble, this CD has great variety of tempo and emotion. I play it when I want the passion of Nusrat with the drive of dance music.
