Does anyone know: premade paste question

Does anyone know what is added in the premade paste tubes that makes the henna have such a long shelf life? I found a Rani Kone in an Indian store the other day and bought it out of curiosity. On the box, it gave a manufacturing date of a year ago, and an expiration date of 2000something. I was amazed at the wonderful color it gave. A deep rich brown-burgundy. It had a good consistency right out of the tube, no clogs, no problems. It also dried quickly with very little flaking and cracking problems. The paste looked just like home-made henna paste, a dark greenish black color and smelled the same, too. I did detect some kind of scent, though that was like pine-sol. Not turpentine, but like a pine-cleaner smell. There was no list of ingredients on the box or the tube, it was made in Pakistan. While I loved the results of the Rani-Kone on me, I would hesitate to use it on anyone else not knowing whether or not there are harmful ingredients in it. Can anyone give me any more information on these kones?
