Transferring designs from paper is easy-peasy. You can draw your design in ballpoint pen and then transfer it to the skin using alcohol. Or you can draw your design in henna, wait for it to dry (just until the shine is gone so it won't smear) and "glue" it to the skin with lemon-sugar. Then wrap and apply heat as usual. I like using the leftover paper from clothing patterns -- it's very flexible, but not too porous. But probably any paper would work well. And you can draw (or trace) your design before going over it in henna. ballpoint ink, pencil, eyeliner pencils, brown markers are all nice, and none of them seem to interfere with a henna stain. The major drawback to using henna on paper is that it;s hard to get good contact on the skin over curved bits -- palms, tummies, etc. And large designs would be difficult on a single piece of paper because of the curve problem. But I've used the technique very successfuly on the back my right hand and around the wrist. --Natasha
