There are a lot of brands and formulae of India Ink. They are usually laquer of some sort darkened by carbon of some sort.... others are acrylic based. They're mostly harmless.....Most of the bottles of ink have a standard non-toxic label....which means your arm won't fall off. The Dahler and Rowney company makes acrylic calligraphy inks that stay on the skin quite well, and are water resistant until washed off with detergent. THey do not penetrate the skin at all. For safety and longevity, you might want to look into Temptu's line of resin-based body paints that were formulated to imitate tattoos for the movie industry (an actor may need to appear tattoed or hennaed in one movie, but not in the next) ....avaible at the link below. : Does anyone know if India Ink would be safe to use on my skin? I am : not sure if it is and i don't want my arm to fall off or something
