It's used as an astringent and as a styptic, and is used in dying iand tanning. ...sort of aluminum sulphate. It's often used with natural dyes, and it's in styptic sticks. Sometimes you find it in the canning supplies in the grocery store. I used to use a styptic stick (alum) to stop all the little nicks from leg-shaving. It stings a lot when you do that... The formula's in the dictionary, but I don't know how to put all the little numbers halfway down when I'm typing it out.
