The Citric acid if I added too much (1 tsp citric acid to 1 tbls of Henna) would actually prevent the henna from dying my skin. It took about a 1/2 hour to 45min. to dry to the point where I could touch it with out it smearing. It was not flaky at all. It was very similar to glue. If I added a 1/2 tsp to 1 tbls Henna the results were better (still it didn't effect the color in anyway). It would allow the henna to dye my skin but it added a smoothness to the consistancy and let the henna paste dry slower on my skin but not too slow. Sometimes in the heat I've noticed henna paste will dry out so quickly it becomes nessisary to moisten it before I finish a design. With a little citric acid this problem was not a issue. Side note: the Lime(stone) Paste alone was a disaster. It became too dry to do anything with besides make cement with and all though the intial results seemed promissing (it stained everything in sight) it didn't actually stain my skin. The Lime(stone)/Citric Acid (1/2 tsp citric acid, 1/2 tsp lime (stone)paste disolved in water and 1 tbls henna) combo seemed to work better. I got the same (side by side) results from that as I did with my regular mix (Henna, tea, lemon juice, and Eucalyptus oil). Good luck to you. I hope this helps you some.
