If you have to have your henna paste ready quickly (3-5 hours from mixing) put the freshly mixed paste in your car with the windows up. The steady heat will make the acid-breaking-out-the-dye process go quickly. It's easier on the texture than putting in boiling liquid. Be careful to close up your paste container (like an 8 oz margerine snap lid container)...because, if your henna gets dry crusty spots they'll be evil to stir back in. Your dye is releasing when it goes from rich green to a browner color of green. Your dye has gone too far when you see the brown liquid (that's your dye, getting too far gone to use) separating out. Watch your paste in these very warm conditions. If it exhausts, (like in 7 hours in a 100F car) you'll get nothing but a tragic pumpkin color that never darkens.
