: I was in the Mark Twian house wishing I had a sketch book because : there was a design on the ceiling(sp) I wanted to try to henna. Check a library - under architecture. Also Decorative Art. I have a reprint of a lovely victorian book: The Grammar of Ornament by Owen Jones. Color plates reproduce sections of designs from all over the world, all sorts of sources (tiles, columns, ceilings, jewelery, one or two tribal tatoos, rugs and other textiles, furniture, cemetary stones...). It's INSPIRING. Basically, some Victorians had the leasure to do exactly what you want - go around copying patterns from everywhere.
