scholars and journalists decided that it was generally more gracious
to the Buddhists, Muslims and Jews to simply say that that time about
2000 years ago should just be called "Common Era" and "Before Common
Era", and to just leave the deity out of it. The other religions have
their own dating systems, so BCE is one used that doesn't provoke
unnecessary theological arguments, when the only concern at hand is
dating things.
