That's right. A patch test will NOT tell you if you will get chemical burns later on from black henna. But the irritation some (few) people can get from all-natural henna paste is due to allergies to the oils or other natural ingredients used to mix the paste. ALLERGIES ARE DIFFERENT THAN CHEMICAL TOXICITY. They may be irritating, but cause no serious harm (with the exception of anaphylactic reations to latex, bees and such). A small patch test (removed at any sign of irritation) is a safe way to tell if you are allergic to a cosmetic. Again, latex is an exception - do not touch some one with latex if they know they are allergic. Do not expect anyone here to give you a "safe" way to experiment with PPD black henna, though. If you come away without side effects, it's pure luck (and who knows if it isn't getting into your bloodstream anyway). We have heard too many horror stories. If you are dead set on black, go to the colored henna forum links above. Or try body paint (see 'temptu' below). Or straight for scarification - skip the middle man.
