: Yesterday I finally got around to trying the recipe that was posted a : couple of weeks ago (making a paste using henna and bitters, applying : it, then using white flower oil). I found the paste to be very : coarse, and it wouldn't flow evenly out of the cone. So my resulting : design was gloppy. Did anyone else have this problem? : I left the paste on for about 1-1/2 hours before it began to fall off. : Today, the design has darkened, but unevenly -- some areas took well : and others are quite pale. : Please respond if you've tried this method. Did it work for you? : I tried it but did not leave it out overnight. I will try it that way next. When I did it, I used lime juice, with a tad bit of water, and boiled it until it looked kind of foamy. I let it sit until it was a little cool (there was only about 1/4 cup there) and then simmered it again for a while. I added just enough to the henna to let it ball up when i stirred it. I then added some baby oil (go figure). I tried this before and it worked pretty well. I used "fast absorbing" johnson & johnson. It helps give it a better texture to work with and I'm not sure but it seemed to help it absorb a little faster. When I added the bitters, I only put in enough to make it a little darker in shade and to moisten it a hair. I let it sit for about 10 minutes. I stirred it one more time and then put a very thick sun and moon pattern on my palms. VERY thick. but I only left it on for 1/2 hour to an hour because I had to do something with my hands. It didn't hardly dry up (I think because of the oil) so I just wiped it off and it was already a very very dark orange-ish red. It was a darker shade because of the bitters, but I want to see just how dark I can get it. It works just as well witout the bitters, but does not seem to be such a dark shade. Try it again and tell me if you get the same results. I hope I didn't just get lucky! Let me know! Good Luck!
