Let it grow out. Before you try anything, try dying a bundle of hair
pulled out of your hairbrush and see what happens. An accquaintence
did the same thing, and the combination turned her hair mega-goth
black (with a greenigh tinge). She was hoping for red.
If you're trying for henna red.....repeated applications of henna, and
longer durations of paste on the hair will do no harm and may get you
the red you want.
