From Sa'di "A Cure for Love"
a henna riddle and allegory:
"If you should cut me into a hundred shreds it would not change this
color of mine, for I am Allah's dye, and Allah is the best dyer"
Other poems from Sa'di...not henna, but, damn! Sa'di grooves!
"There are those who are critical of the dance and love; sing us a
bawdy song and make such malcontents depart."
"The musicians have departed but the Sufi is still engaged in the
dance; Love has a beginning but no end."
"There is no choice for those who seek their desire, but to realize
disappointment; one who longs for New Year's Day must endure the
winter." (Sa'di's calendar had new year nearer spring than ours)
Sa'di was a Sufi...and...all the henna artists in medieval Spain were
Sufis! Kinda appropriate, I think.......
