Don't try this, not even at home!

Had a near henna disaster with a drum yesterday. My client wanted it with the paste removed, and when I took the paste off, the stain was so very pale I put a heating pad on. Well, after an hour under the heating pad, nothing was happening, so I tried using an iron on low. This has worked beautifully for 4 tamborines, but not on this particular drum. Within seconds I heard a hissing sound, and a white outline of the iron developed quickly after. Fortunately, the outline was more visible on the inside than the outside, and I quickly massaged saddle soap into the skin to prevent it from getting super-dry. The client was pleased with the outcome, and I gave him the saddle soap just in case. So I will never, never use an iron on a drum again. Catherine suggested a blow-dryer (don[t know why I didn't think of that) to help bring out the color. And I think I will just leave the paste on for most of them, unless specifically asked to remove it...
