Dear CCJ, I found a source, The Use and Function of Tattooing of Moroccan Women by Susan Searight. It is a 3 volume set and it is a great source. According to the book: The ingredients for making uo herqus are varied: wood or other ashes, pitch spices(she didn't specify which)nut-gall, tamarid fruit, pot-black, indian ink, pitch walnut skins leaves or black kohl. They can be used separately or mixed together with water or oil. I don't think I'd like to play with pitch or ashes. I think black kohl mixed with olive oil, may be safe. As we all stress do a patch test. I'll test it and let you know results.... Blessings, christine
