: Funny you should mention it, Kenzi, since my mom's roughly the same : way... I figure if the culture/religion, any culture, calls for being : a decent person - and the followers aren't hell-bent upon spreading : their beliefs to everyone, regardless of whether they want to know - : it can't possibly be that bad... You and i both know that, but so many people in this country are fed the worst kind of propaganda about Muslims. I consider myself intelligent and tolerant, but when I first went to live in Morocco, I was terrified, and that terror was based on what I knew of the Muslim world from newspapers and TV. I don't remember having ever seen a positive portrayal of Muslims before I went to a muslim country and started looking for positive reports. My mother is convinced that henna is a sure indicating that I am going to convert to Islam. She is an artist (and a history buff) but she can't appreciate the aesthetic beauty of henna because of her fear of me converting. She's starting to come around thanks to my charming husband, but she has to undo 60 years of programming!
