: It wasn't henna (lawsonia inermis).
But if it lasted several weeks, could it have been anything else?

How did it look? Was there shading in the design? (This is typical
of airbrush techniques.) Do your daughters remember what the
airbrushed fluid looked like?

I've been looking at the dark, watery fluid that collects in a cone
left to sit a while. It does stain, if you can get it to stay in one
place long enough. I'm wondering if it's a sort of henna extract. I
don't know if it's fine enough to go through an airbrush, but it's
fairly thin and wouldn't be like trying to put the actual paste
through an airbrush (agreed, there's no way to do that - the powder
is made of macroscopic particles, far larger than the pigments that
are put through airbrushes).
