That sounds wonderful. Thank you for sharing. I'm going to try this and let you know how it works. Usually I do take a hot shower or bath before hennaing to make sure my skin is clean and pores open, but I haven't sat there in the bathroom to henna. Natalie : I would like to tell you guys a hint that I have also found to work : MIRACLES!!! I soak my hand for about an hour in the hottest water I : can stand in the sink in my bathroom. Before I start this though, I : take a long, hot shower. While the bathroom is nice and steamy, I : wrap myself up in a warm bathrobe, put on a sweat band, and while I : am still very warm body temp. wise, I soak my hand in water with 3 : TBL. of ginger, fresh or powder, a hanfull of cloves, a cap full of : peppermint oil, euc. oil, a squeeze of lemon juice, and some fresh : mint. Any other oils I have on hand I also add and play around with : the mixture, but this is the one I use most. After about an hour or : so, before I "raisin", I apply the henna while I run the faucet very : slowly, hot only. Then, the henna stays wet from the steam and your : sweat until you leave the bathroom. I always sit there a while, : anyway! Then, wrap YOUR usuall way, and let it sit all night. My : sister in law taught me a trick while I was in Pakistan visiting my : hubby's family. Take a plastic bag, slip over your hand, take a : rubber band, apply over the bag CAREFULLY, then holding a small : portion of the bag corner and rubber band together, "Blow up" like : you would a balloon, then quickly put the bag/rubber band down. This : will actully condense water on the inside of the bag, so lay with the : body part you have Mehndhi'd hanging down off the bed so it won't : drip on your henna while you sleep and smear. (This happened to me : once, wasn't pretty). I have gotten the darkest results when I tried : this!!! Even with POOR quality henna. I have been doing henna for a : long time, and only freehanded. I like to do a design I see once, : then get BORED. I end up freehanding in the middle of it. I can't : seem to get into anything large, only delicate lacy designs. I am in : Texas, and I do this out of my home, or for Dullhaan, I will travel : to her. If you are here in Texas, and would like to get a true : proffesinal application of Mehndhi, I will do it for you. I have : been told not only am I the best in this area, I am the CHEAPEST!!! : I would do this for free if you have never had it done before, and if : you like it, come back and see me. I will even work on a sliding : scale basis for those who are financially challenged. CRCIKET- : WINNER@MSN.COM. : Sincerely, Aisha Hashmi : : : Camphor will pass into your bloodstream through your skin. I bet : : that's where your headache came from. I also got nausea and a : : headache from camphor. Big exposure to camphor can be very : dangerous.
: : Camphor will darken the henna, (oxidize it) somewhat, but it's just : : not as effective or safe as a good overnight wrap, and plenty of : heat. : : That, and get good fresh henna! : : Warming tricks that have worked well for me lately .... (got some : : gonzo colors with these) 1) fall asleep by the warmest furnace : outlet : : in the house, with your wrapped henna right up by the heat : : and when you unwrap, but haven't scraped the henna off yet.... : : 1) hold your hennaed hand over the toaster to really "cook it" : : 2) hold your hand over the tea kettle's steam (CAREFUL!!!) to sort : of : : steam set the color : : Heat really gives a burst of dye release.... you can see it when : you : : iron henna into textiles.
