In the Middle East, bathing has always been a priority, an imperative,
and a cultural ritual.

I wonder if one of the reasons Europe stopped bathing in the Middle
Ages was to show a concious difference from the Muslim population
(that they were trying to either convert or eliminate) -- at least
evidence in medieval Spain suggests that.
