I can't say for certain how fashionable henna is in Syria today, but henna HAS been used in Syria continuously for at least 5000 years, and probably 9000, possibly 11000 years (back to the Natufian civilization era) That's precisely the area of the world where the bridal/battle/sacrifice traditions of henna began. My Palestinian friends here say some communities there are very fond of henna, others are not. Mostly a matter of fashion, taste, and having someone around who does a good job of it. I'd love to be able to go to Syria myself! I think there are many artifacts in museums that show very, very old henna and harquus .... have a wonderful time! I can send you some Syrian designs by email ... just email me and ask!
