The usual henna lore advises against using metal utensils or bowls for mixing -- because there could be a reaction with greenish consequences...however, after breaking almost a zillion plastic spoons I grabbed a stainless steel one out of desperation and mixed my batch.

It was fine. In fact, I've used stainless steel tips for my cones for nearly a year and never had a problem.

So, I think the conventional wisdom should be altered to say "avoid metal utensils that might be reactive -- such as copper, aluminium or silver spoons or bowls -- but stainless is OK."
