colors

Saw a thing on the E! channel about a guy in LA
who did this "henna tatoo" stuff (please pardon my wording, I am just learning about this).
Anyway, he had the usual black/brown color from the henna, but he also produced this wonderful rich blue with as well. What did he use?
Where does one get thses materials? I am in the South so it is hard to get information.
