Catherine, I just picked up some info that I thought might interest
you. I met up with a gypsy woman who is also a belly dancer
(Morocco, for those of you who know this world of belly dancing). I
was showing her some of your patterns and when she saw the Armenian
crosses she told me that a lot (or even most) Armenians would have a
cross tattooed somewhere on the body (don't know if this is still
done)...usually on the upper arm, the inside of the arm or on the
ribs under the arm. This was done to them when they were babies so
that if they were ever taken into slavery by the muslims they would
have at least this one little reminder of their origins.
