It is safe, as long as you are using henna you mixed up yourself from plain fresh traditional henna powder. That way you can be certain what's in it, and allow for potential allergies. However, some people have had good results with hennaeing heads, some have not. Skin over the cranium is thin, and often very oily. These things cause a poor henna stain. If you can really seal down the henna, (NS, latex, LS, whatever) and add lots of extra heat (heating pad, wooly cap etc) you greatly improve your chances of having a good-looking head henna.
