I hated the first 20 cones I made, but now I won't switch back to the bottle. Freezer bag plastic, I find, can be a bit too slack for cones. I use sheet protector plastic to make a firm cone that doesn't let the henna shift around too much. Try making the cone without the henna inside, then adding the henna. This will allow you to tape the inside of the seam to prevent the cone from slipping open from the inside. You can also choose your hole size and make adjustments without getting paste everywhere. The pressure on the point of a poorly taped cone will cause the hole to gradually open up, causing widening lines. And as for spurts and blobs from sifted henna...sometimes the henna is cut with clay and other stuff that will pass through a strainer, but will form lumps just like when one makes a half-ass attempt at making gravy. You can sieve your henna (pass the mixed paste through a sieve) or try buying a better quality product. I hate to shill, but my Castle Arts henna passes through a cone like a dream after one sifting.
