I am totally fascinated by the latest exchanges initiated by Babaganooj (which, btw, is one of my favorite dishes -- I once wrote a song about babaganoosh...many years ago when I was in a band in Balto, MD) The parties as described by Zahira sound like parties I used to have back in college when a group of us (my four roommates and our friends) would get together to henna our hair and apply facial masks. Men were banished -- and any who dared interrupt were chased by fierce ladies wearing green and blue clay masks -- a scary sight, indeed! It was a wonderful bonding experience where we shared our hopes, dreams, and disappointments -- and felt very grown up -- so recently out of the parental nest. Babaganooj, I love your comment about men being tossed out like male bees, etc, only useful for reproductive properties...sort of rejected and prideful at the same time... Poor men. :) Thanks again for your interesting insights into linguistics. One more reason to admire semitic languages. The beautiful writing and tradition of calligraphy is another...
