As far as modern technology is concerned, henna is just one of those products that has been used for thousands of years and is kind of hard to improve upon. For the most part, you will not find many *safe* products that stain for as long as henna does and with the fading capability that henna has (that attracts so many tattoo-shy people). And since henna is a paste that needs to dry on the skin, the utensils to apply henna are somewhat limited to thin sticks, cones, and squeeze bottles with small metal tips. (Cones and bottles are items that have just come into play in the past few decades -- so you could say that's modern technology... (^: ) Needless to say, henna has it's own vast and colorful history. I feel I uphold and add onto that history when I use it. What's awesome about henna is that it has always been safe for the skin and beneficial as a sunblock. It has the staying power to stand up through showering and light scrubbing, but has the grace to disappear after a week or two. Since you consider yourself an artist, then you'll come to appreciate henna as a medium of expression. Just like some people prefer to use power tools to carve out a sculpture from a wooden block, to those who prefer hand tools. It's all groovy, man! :^)
