Very cool! You are keeping a tradition alive, one of passing down an art form from generation to generation. Go for it...you really deserve it. must say, he has been very surprising. When he walked in, I first questioned myself about why he would be interested in an ancient art form like henna. But looks can be sooooo decieving! He is one of my brightest students (not to play favorites, they're all extremely bright) and I look forward to teaching him!
-----True, but look at yourself...who would think a guy like you would be interested in henna?! And I get the same reaction from people in Morocco when they hear I am a henna artist...what? a white woman doing henna and doing Moroccan designs? wierd! cool! Do some on me! I guess that's how henna made its way around the world; we're all part of the cycle. : Any suggestions for taking on students? His mother said she would pay me, how much should I charge? What methods do I teach him? All I know has come from TREMENDOUS trial and error, and I dont know if you can teach that! ----Good questions. I would suggest charging your regular rate for doing henna...that is what your time is worth, regardless of what you are doing. I think putting together a kit for him is a great idea...you could include Catherine's henna timeline (email me for a copy), a bibliography (I have my own, there is also one at this site and you can add your own favorites to the list), pages of designs, etc. As for methods, teach him what you know best and then if he wants to learn other methods, teach yourself first and then teach him. ---You're going to be great at it! Keep us posted and send us photos.
