The figure in the palm of her hand is an "om" ...a syllable intoned as prayer and meditation. The sound of the om is held to be a great blessing, and to put one at peace. The patterns on the backs of her fingers are little vine motifs, typical of Indian bridal henna. "om mani padme om" is "Hail to the jewel in the lotus" and is a traditional Tibetan chanted prayer. A variant spelling is "aum". We have an "om" in a lotus henna pattern that you can get for free at our website, www.mehandi.com . Just click on "free patterns" on the home page. (We also have 100 sheets of henna patterns available, 4 patterns on each sheet, with meaning and source for each...sort of a pattern thesaurus for henna people....inquire by email....)( we send free samples)
