My hands look like pumpkins!!! Help!

How do I get the henna to be that dark (black?brown?) color you see in the pictures? Mine all came out this bright orange like a pumpkin! And how can I get the teeny tiny lines...my bag only had one small pin prick in it but it still came out a thick line. I bought powdered henna and mixed a batch from scratch with the eucalyptus oil and all. Now what?? Someone please help!!
