lurkingPosted by MehndiMan on April 23, 2001 at 03:44:15: In reply to: Welcome posted by Candi* on April 21, 2001 at 13:23:14: : I don't know why some people lurk for so long? We are nice people: aren't we? To me, lurking for a while in a forum is both useful and a gesture of respect to the existing participants. When I first found the forum, I, like most, had *many* questions to ask. By the time I finished reading all of the archives, all of those newbie questions had been answered...in great detail, since most of the questions had been hashed out (and re-hashed over and over, as the new people who arrived who didn't read the archives kept asking the same old questions). So, not only did I get my questions answered, but I avoided bothering the existing participants with questions which had been asked and answered many times in the past. In addition, I was able to get a feel for the types of people here...yes, most of the people here are quite nice people...but I didn't know that when I first arrived, eh? So, if you ask me, I'd say a big problem with most forums is that new people don't lurk long enough before presuming to speak up. My lurking and gradual de-lurking was just me practicing what I preach. (:
