books, oils and preparationPosted by Jillian on April 29, 2001 at 23:42:25: I was looking through the site and although the dangers of blackhenna are thoroughly covered, i was surprised that the uses of clove and eucalyptus oils were mentioned without warning. both of these oils are SEMITOXIC! while they can be perfectly safe, much caution should be used with any essential oil. also, i didn't see any mention of the more traditionally used mustard oil. mustard oil is intended for EXTERNAL USE ONLY. it is commonly used to pre-treat the skin before painting your design. a good mustard oil will be a golden yellow and smell like a strong mustard. it can be purchased at most indian grocery stores. as far as good books are concerned in response to Zimra's request I found the following sources incredibly helpful- Mehndi, The Timeless Art of Henna Painting, Author-Loretta Loom Traditional Mehndi Designs, A Treasury of Henna Body Art jillian
