Henna on toes

Does anyone know of a way to make hennaing toes easier? I have to
remember to keep my toes spread until the paste is dry and its hard
to do that and after a couple minutes I usually forget and the close
them back otogwether and end up smearing everything. Is there some
kind of toe separator I could use? The one I have currently would
cover up too much of the skin...

Any help is appreciated.
