Odd. Is the red mark itchy?

How did you store the paste, after you mixed it? In the fridge, or at
room temp? If you stored it at room temp, it might have had mold
spores that you were allergic to (having left a lot of henna out many
many times over the years, it does tend to get white and fuzzy, or
grey and fuzzy... and the mold spores are present before they become
visible). That would account for the texture/drying change too.
Or it could be a matter of the skin on your leg (being more
sensitive/delicate), and possibly the lemon juice irritating it.
