What century? I found in a museum a Canaanite cosmetic palette from about 1000 BCE that I believe is a henna mixing plate. It would certainly work for me .... Ancient Egypt didn't do henna until 1390 BCE when it came in with a marriage alliance with Syria .... they might have brought those palettes in with them. In present practice .... whatever is at hand may get pressed into use. Sometimes it's in a special little ceramic pot, which is smashed to the ground after being danced around on each woman's head ....smashing it exorcises any evil noogies that might be hanging about. A little lidded pot is a good thing to use, as it keeps the henna from drying out during the evening.
