Henna stains and ink/needle tattoo'sPosted by Willowhawk on May 9, 2001 at 17:37:48: Greetings,There seem to be so many drive by requests by people about finding pix for thier upcoming tattoo's. It got me to thinking. I have heard of people who have had Mehendi done, then had the same design turned into an ink & needle tattoo. I was just wondering how many people here were influenced by mehendi, and that prompted them to get the needlework done. Or vice versa, how many of us 'ink junkies' got addicted to body art and mehendi seemed like the next wonderful alternative. I'll start...lol. I never new what Mehendi was, or henna for that matter. But I did know that Indian woman had beautiful patterns on their hands and feet. That always intrigued me, though I never acted on it. When I was beginning to search for the design for my 5th ink and needle tattoo, I found a piece of Celtic knotwork. I kept going back to this piece that was a knotwork bell. I enlarged the pic and realized that it fit the top of my foot wonderfully, and be 'similar to those Indian designs'...lol. My tattoo-ist, loved to do interesting work, designs that weren't 'from the wall'. So, that is pretty much how I ended up with the top of my foot tattoo'd. I haven't had a new tattoo in about 3 years now. The costs seem to be going up, and I can't justify spending that much money anymore. Plus the husband whines "I only have one...you have 8...not fair". When I finally discovered what Mehendi was, I gave it a try. I found it was a pretty easy way for me to adorn myself (not to mention highly affordable). The first year of working with it was just a year of trial and error, along with doing anything my friends wanted. Since then it's been refined to guiding people into what I want to do for them and giving them an experience that is tranquil, relaxing and also fun. Or sharing in their celebrations with them and adding to it, so you are becoming one of the people with whom they will share a special memory. With that said, this thought just struck me also. For me personally, I don't like colored in my tattoo's. Just one of mine is colored in, and it's not visible unless you are on pretty intimate terms with me...lol. I know that I am not fond of the colored 'henna' out there either. I tend to feel that if you can't acheive the beauty you seek with the natural red-brown henna, then to move on to the colors is moving outside the true nature of the art of Henna. Ok, enough mindless rambling now...lol. Blessings, Willowhawk
