Just don't try to scrub it all offat once or you'll end up with sore rough hands. Lava soap is ok to use on your hands. I wouldn't use it more than once a day. The best way that I've found to exfoliate a design is after taking a hot shower, leave the body part wet and then take a rough dry towel and briskly rub the design. I know this sounds just too easy but it works. It also works to remove rough skin that isn't hennaed. I don't use fabric softeners in my towels and this makes them more absorbent and rougher. Just be patient, you are not just removing a design, you are taking off a couple of layers of skin. Keep moisturizing too. This works the other way as well. If you are trying to keep a design from fading, you want to pat it dry and not rub it.
