If I : have to wake up early to make it to a festival site before 8 a.m. you : can bet I won't be able to get a good night's rest beforehand. Has : anyone else experienced this? Is there a way to avoid the "night : before the first day of school" feeling? This is a problem for me too. It is mostly due to the fact of my life that I work nights so I don't regularly get up early in the morning and almost never use an alarm clock. When I do have an early appointment I am not able to go to bed early and then i sleep fitfully all night worrying that I won't wake up on time. I end up feeling awful the next day which further reinforces my dislike of early morning events and appointments. I just had my first street fair and in preparing for it I had to unearth stuff from last year, print cards, coordinate with partners, get organized, not forget anything etc. I was very nervous I would forget things. I found that the key to sleeping well is to prepare EVERYTHING the night before. I force myself not to be lazy and say, "leave it and take care of it in the morning". I do it all the night before; that way when I go to bed I am exhausted but I also feel a sense of accomplishment which is better than a warm glass of milk for getting me to sleep well. I also get up a little earlier than I think I should so I can go about things calmly which helps ensure I don't forget anything. It worked this time; hopefully I can do this regularly
