when the nerves kick in!Posted by jenaye on May 22, 2001 at 18:51:41: In reply to: you'd think they never saw a henna artist before! posted by Darlahood on May 22, 2001 at 18:34:13: It's funny how you can sit at a fair for 3 days with 10 or morepeople starting at every line you make and love it, but get into a private setting with people you don't know very well or are almost inspecting your every move & the nerves hit! I have a state of mind that I get into when I do henna - I take a deep breath, let all my tension go, sometimes I unfocus my eyes for a few seconds, then come back relaxed. I did henna for another wedding this past weekend (on May17th for the wedding on the 19th) and most of the people & the bride are all good friends, but the bride's cousin from Bombay was there to have her hand henna'd and I must say that even my "zen" state took a few minutes to kick in!! She was very sweet though and her henna turned out very nicely (phew!!) (I'll post the wedding pics at my photo site sometime this week I hope)Jen : : My experience with bridal henna was just similarly nervewracking. : The family was conservative and jewish, but the daughter and bride to : be was far from stuffy, she was getting her master's degree in : ancient religions or something and knew all about henna. Anyway her : mom and dad, the ones paying for my services, hovered over me at the : kitchen table for the first twenty minutes or so. I kept messing up : and it was a while before I could get centered and get into my henna : groove. I finally told them they were making me nervous and could : they please go do something else. They were making the bride : nervous, too, so at that time I thought it best just to come right : out and tell them. This was the first time that being watched while : I henna someone really bugged me. Normally I'm used to it ya know?
