I particularly like the tradition that you don't need to henna the
mother's feet as they have already been sanctified by birthing blood!
(North African, but I'm not certain of the group. It's in my notes
somewhere here.)

A really excellent henna party 40 days after birth is almost universal
.... wherein the woman gets new clothes, gets her hair done (I
remember mine being an absolute wreck for about 4 months after
delivering as there was never a moment for myself ....) and has a
thorough bathing, prettying up and decking out ... and her friends
offer to mind the kids while she has a chance to spend a night with
her husband again.
