Don't feel embarassedPosted by Anne on June 3, 2001 at 21:33:25: In reply to: k, I'm embarassed now... posted by jenaye on June 3, 2001 at 06:22:11: Hej,Don't feel embarassed about the story. Sure, it had some glaring errors in it, but I think (and I had a long talk with another student in my historiography - that's philosophy of history - class about this, back when I was considering being an ancient near east grad student) that unless you have a background in the particular subject, you might not be able to see the errors. (Too bad for the woman who came up with this "history" that we found it. Heh heh.) Anyway, this student and I talked about the documentaries on Discover Channel, the History Channel, A & E etc. and how they were full of errors, but you wouldn't know it unless you'd studied it seriously in school. I do wonder why the author came up with what she did. If her story is a reflection of her, I would think twice about doing buisness with her. On a slightly related note, a lot of textbooks that your kids are using in schools have errors in them, not to mention a lot of accepted mythology (stuff that didn't quite happen that way, but we're not going to question it).
