The Indian women I was next to at the: festival told me that boiling some taraminds (sp?) to expell the : juice and adding that to your henna would really help to darken the : stain. Has anyone every tried this? : I guess I'll have to start hunting some up...we don't have an Indian : grocery around here...hope I can find some. You can also find it with Mexican food... all of the major grocery stores here (Columbus, Ohio) carry it, as we have a large mexican population. Soemtimes in the regular grocery store there will be a rack in the produce section with mexican ingredients... things like dried chilis, corn husks, and tamarind! I also get it in blocks of dried fruit at the Middle eastern grocery store, or in a sugary paste (which I don't like as much). I actually really, really like tamarind. I mixed up 2 batches of the same henna laste week, one with just lemon juice, one with lemon juice plus a tea made with black tea, cloves, and tamarind... and the latter batch came out much darker. (no real hardcore experiment here, just happened to notice it). Also, I just did a festival where the kids were playing with henna around their necks/collarbones, and the stain took REALLY well. I was suprised! (*love* that CA henna!) Again, no big scientific experiment, just an experience! Zimra, sunburned and exhausted from a festival with the *craziest* henna party in the world... so crazy I didn't even get to do henna! I was too busy throwing cones at people, giving instruction, doing wraps.... I so needed an assistant! (or 6!)
