Companionable, but I think it throws some of the young guys to have their hand on "grandma's" knee! To support a hennaed palm while I henna the back of the hand, I rest their wrist on a rolled towel or roll of paper towels, with their fingertips just touching the table. Then .... their hand is steady enough for me to do the back, but the henna paste on the palm is untouched! I am always SOOOO grateful to henna a dancer or other limber person, so they can help me get to the wierd bits without me having to either crawl around at some odd angle or fight henna's tendency to droop and drape on a vertical bit.
