Henna on grey hair

All the commercial hair henna I've bought says not to use it on hairmore than 10% grey. i always wondered why. Then, I was at a
restaurant and this huge extended Indian family came in, from newborn
to great-grandmamma. The oldest lady had jet black VERY shiny
straight hair with these sunrise color streaks in it which started at
her hairline and disappeared toward the ends. It wasn't until later
that I realized it must have been henna on white streaks. It was
just incredibly gorgeous.
I wonder if, as America has blue-haired old ladies, India has sunrise-
haired old ladies? Lovely.
