coarse henna ...Posted by Jewel on June 27, 2001 at 03:36:05: In reply to: Re: Info on henna on hair in Iran(I know again)I think pretty interisting for CCJ? posted by Dawn R on June 26, 2001 at 23:49:06: What wasn't black would be fire-engine red. I didn't know much abouthenna back then but I thought it was beautiful. I remember the henna had alot of sticks and twigs in it. It was extremely course. Oh, and it was supposed to be a secret that she hennaed her hair. - Funny you mention that, Dawn. The henna I know all my life has always been EXTREMELY coarse with bits of sticks and twigs in it. My relatives/friends/neighbours who went to Mecca for pilgrimage will bring back kilos of fresh henna and I'd get a kilo or 2 *winks*. It's definitely not for the impatient ('cos you need to sift SIFT SIFT like crazy). And that I did until I bought henna from Amy (Castlearts) and Kenzi's wonderful Moroccan. Never before I've seen henna powder so fine ! Well, all the time I was growing up, my mom would henna my hair with Jamila but I've never noticed how fine it was (still is) too. Anyways, traditional bridal Malay henna patterns has always been bold (full fingertips and bold designs on palms) so the coarse henna is not a problem. I used that coarse Meccan henna for my hair 2 weeks ago (left it on for about 12 hours). My black hair has a slight reddish tint under the sun and the parts where I highlighted before are red. Makes my hair beautiful and conditioned :) ... Love & Peace, ~Jewel~
