never too much info on henna in Iran!Posted by Catherine Cartwright Jones on June 27, 2001 at 13:51:59: In reply to: Info on henna on hair in Iran(I know again)I think pretty interisting for CCJ? posted by Erfan on June 26, 2001 at 16:22:20: Thanks!!!That parting and braiding for hennaeing makes interpreting old statues very different! I knew men hennaed their hair well back to the oldest civilizations, but it hadn't occurred to me that those neat little crimps and coils in their hair and beards were from hennaeing and braiding! I recognized it on the Kore (the maidens in ancient Greek statues) but I'll go have another look at the male Persian statues now! I must have looked at those statues a hundred times and not considered that normal beards and guyz hair just doesn't GROW that way, something has to be done to get it to do that. I was looking at some very old Persian statues in the British Museum, trying to figure out if what I was seeing on the backs of their hands might be henna ... (there's certainly a pattern there, but hard to tell what, it's so weathered).... and I should have been making notes on the hair and beards too! Ah well ..... another reason to go back! :-)
