Lasting fresh hennaPosted by Lauren on June 28, 2001 at 18:41:24: In reply to: I need a reliable and consistent source of henna posted by Maureen on June 28, 2001 at 17:40:23: : I am looking for powder or paste that can be stored in the freezer: for prolonged periods of time...1 year. I don't like to have to shop I think that if you don't mix it, the powder will last essentially forever if it's kept away from heat and light. If you put it in a sealed bag at the back and bottom of a freezer, you should easily get a year or more out of it. I'm not sure about the paste. Most people say it has a shelf life of 2-3days in the fridge, but here's my experience with what I sell (it's Moroccan). I did this yesterday. I ended up cleaning out my car and finding 2 Jacquard bottles I had mixed up previously (1 and 3 weeks ago) using bottled lemon juice and a bit of eucalyptus oil. It has been 80-90 degrees in Hartford for about two weeks now, and my car has been parked out in the sun every day, all day. I was waiting in line for my car to get inspected and bored, so I tried them. I drew a small line of each on my palm and left it on between 5 and 10 minutes in the car and then in the waiting room, both of which were relatively cool. I flaked them off when they were still at the matte stage. The 3-week old bottle left a light greyish stain and the week old left a clear medium orange. About 24 hours, no special care and 1 shower later, the 3 week old is nearly unseeable, but the 1 week old is a medium-dark clear brown. I figure if it can stand to be in my car for a week at temps over 100 degrees for several hours at a time, it should be perfectly happy in the fridge for quite some time.
