congrats!Posted by Kenzi on July 3, 2001 at 16:26:16: In reply to: EEEEEEK My first Indian wedding! posted by Lauren on July 3, 2001 at 15:07:42: First of all, that's great news...very exciting!I can understand why you are nervous about it though. I did my first Indian wedding this spring and felt the same way, mostly because I didn't know what to expect. I had also never practiced Indian bridal henna so I had no idea if I could do it. To allay your nervousness, try to imagine why they called you. They couldn't find anyone in their own culture to do it and they feel comfortable enough hiring someone from outside their culture. If your skill level is important to them then they probably looked at photos of your work on your site and found them acceptable. If they didn't look at the photos that may mean that they have low expectations. Who knows! Also, they know that you are not Indian so I doubt that they expect you to follow their customs, let alone know about them. You don't have to carry white guilt so far. Just be relaxed and open to learn new things. I doubt you will do anything to offend. Also, they have probably been living in the US for a while and are pretty integrated into American society even while maintaining their culture. They know that there are differences and that you might not know everything about your culture. When I did my first indian wedding there weren't a lot of surprises. I did have to take my shoes off at the door...no big deal! I had to henna everyone and her mother plus the bride. They asked me to use their paste which was in a cone, but I just put it into an empty jacquard bottle. They thought that was amusing. And then there was a little in-fighting about who was to pay me but that had nothing to do with me. All of that is just to say that you have what it takes to do a great job. Just have fun and tell us everyt
