A Question about Side-By-Side ComparisonsPosted by Anne Beltestad on July 3, 2001 at 22:35:03: Ok, I've been lurking for all this essential oil discussion but Ithink am now convinced enough to run out and try some frankincense and cajeput oils in a batch of henna! When I was in NY Kenzi raised a really interesting question re: side-by-side. She basically felt that you can't do a reliable side-by side test of different oils, because it runs and soaks into the skin! I would tend to agree with her, and have been waiting to see if anyone else addresses this, but no one has so far. What do others think? As an amateur aromatherapist, I know oils soak in and run other places than where they're placed. That would seem to hold true if the oil is mixed into something like henna. It does if you mix it in lotion. So...I'm wondering how you can scientifically test oils side-by-side if they bleed into each other? By the way, sweating (athletic as opposed to heat sweat) plus an application of "hemp zap" (a vegan version of Tiger Balm, containing cinnamon, cajeput, clove, and others) made the henna on the back of my hand go a nice deep burgundy, brick on my wrist. It's based on the design on the front of Catherine's new book and is quite lovely. peace out, Anne Beltestad
