"Watercolor" HennaPosted by BarefootSophie on July 12, 2001 at 19:33:38: I was reading the posts below about using old henna to obtain shadevariation (see "Re: Old, weak henna with a purpose.") and thought I'd toss in an idea... it's probably not an original one, but it's one I haven't seen discussed yet. When I want to obtain different shades for effect (e.g., shading the petals of a flower, or a dragon's flame), I put some of my henna in a small bowl, add some water and apply it with a paintbrush. It should be just watery enough to where it's still opaque in the bowl but makes a translucent film on the skin. The resulting shade will oxidize to the same color tone as the surrounding henna but, for obvious reasons, it will be considerably lighter. The shading only lasts about half as long as the outline, which isn't that big a deal for your folks who don't care if it lasts very long. Has anyone tried anything similar, or obtained the same results by doing something different? I'm always looking to learn something new. Sophie
